Section titled “Example 1”The thing that worked for me while going for the salary negotiation is the phrase my gf told me to say - ” I don’t want to go offer shopping, I need 100% hike because I have 4 years of experience and I don’t want to waste your time and my time by going back and forth with you and some other company. You will be revising my offer anyways if I went and brought you counter offers. So I think its fair to ask 100% since I am very much inclined towards joining you guys.”
From my gf’s perspective, I sounded very genuine and the HR was seemingly impressed by the words

Section titled “Example 2”If you are leaving your current job when you are just months away from appraisal cycle you can say that you are leaving your bonus and hike and you were expecting closer to xyz number. And say that you want to stay long term so you are looking for a number that gives you that stability (depends on the hr - i did say to some hr that I am tired of job hunting and I am looking to stay for the next 4-5 years or more).
