I’m not exactly sure how that would work. But I like the idea of it - Don’t say someone is wrong, use this instead

Let me point you in the right direction - stop wasting my time, here is solution

In my view there’s a mismatch between scope and resource allocation - There’s no way in hell we can do this! It’s impossible!

we’re still in the process of aligning all stakeholders - I’m going to make sure this doesn’t conflict with my boss’ plans, or that of their boss

Going forward, I would prefer that you… - You messed up. Don’t do it again

Can you think of a way we can avoid this in the future?

Do let me know if I misunderstood

Correct me if I’m wrong…

**Apologies for my delayed response…**I’m snowed under with important stuff, this is not one of those things.

to your point - Regarding what you were talking about

I have a hard stop at 3 today I have another meeting today

Being mindful of timelines. Let’s concentrate on the initial scope. - You are overcomplicating this

Are we confident that this is the best solution or are we still exploring alternatives? - That sounds like a horrible idea

Are you able to provide some clarity around the other questions previously asked? - Can you answer all of the questions I asked and not just pick and choose one

You have not heard from me because further information is not available at this time, once

I have an update I’ll be sure to loop you in. - Stop bothering me

I am currently tied up with something but I will connect with you once I am free. - I don’t want to talk to you right now!

It is my understanding that you are the appropriate person to contact in regards to this.
But if there is someone better equipped for this let me know. - Do your job!

This falls outside of my responsibilities but I would be happy to connect you with someone who can help. - That’s not my job

As my workload is quite heavy, can you help me understand what I should reprioritize to accommodate this new task? - Stop assigning me so many tasks if you want any of them to get done

I recommend directing this issue to <Name> as they have the proper expertise to best assist you - This is not my problem

I have included my initial email below which contains all of the details you are looking for. -
If you would have read the whole email you’d know the answer to this

Can you help me better understand what exactly it is that you require on my end? - I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about

I am confident in my ability to complete this project and will be sure to reach out, if or when I require your input. - Stop micromanaging

It is important that we have this completed in order to meet our targeted deadlines which are quickly approaching. - Please hurry and get this done!

There seems to be a disconnect here as this information has already been provided. - I’ve told you this multiple times

I do not have the capacity to take this on in addition to my own workload but I’m happy to support where it makes sense. - I’m not doing your job for you

We seem to have a different understanding of this. Can you elaborate further on your thought process here? - What you are saying does not make sense

Thank you for your patience - I forgot your mail

I encourage you to brainstorm possible solutions prior to looping me in for additional support. - Try problem solving on your own before you come to me

Please let me know when your deliverables have been completed. - Can you do your job so I don’t have to?

With my role expanding is there a plan to review my title and compensation to better reflect these additional responsibilities? - Does taking on all this extra work come with extra pay?

I am unable to take that on at the moment as my current workload is quite heavy. Is there someone else who can assist with this? - I can’t take on anymore work right now

As you seem to have a very clear vision for the execution of this, I encourage you to take the lead here and I’m happy to support you where necessary. - If you want it done your way then just do it yourself.

Can you share what the overall compensation looks like for this role? - How much does this role pay?

Is there an opportunity for growth within the company and if so what is the main metric for promotion? - Are promotions based on performance or politics?

Given my contributions to the company’s success along with a current market analysis of my role. I am setting up time to discuss a salary review. - I deserve a raise.

I am not in agreement with this idea and have hesitations moving forward. - That idea is going to be an epic fail.

As my role has expanded since joining the company, I would like to review my compensation so that it better reflects my evolved responsibilities. - My job has evolved but my salary has stayed the same.

I was hoping to be in the X to Y salary range for this position. - I want a higher salary than you are offering me.

I understand there are budget restrictions that limit your ability to increase my salary. However, I would like to understand if additional vacation days, benefits, bonus, and other overall compensation items can be offered. - If you can’t pay any more then what else can you offer.

In the future it is important to share information like this with the team sooner so we might mitigate these sorts of issues. - Maybe if you communicated that with us sooner we wouldn’t be in this mess.

This task has to be prioritized, and I encourage you to take the lead on it. - Well, one of us needs to do this, and it’s not going to be me.

Make Hay While the Sun Shines - Taking advantage of opportunity
We’ve always done it this way, but a fresh pair of eyes on it could help.

Out of respect I want to be upfront and open. Recently I’m feeling like my salary is less than the market. I’m not sure what can be done about that but I hope you’ll understand if I can look around a little.

Let me know if you want me to go into more detail about this, but here’s the flyby and how I used this…
